Art and Architecture
With demolition art curates the SOLLBRUCHSTELLE exhibitions in and on buildings that are destined for demolition and which, with their disappearance, create space for new, architecturally interesting buildings.
Artists are invited to present works that pay tribute to the dying building one last time and face up to the ephemeral character of the exhibition – in other words, allow themselves to be demolished along with the old building.
Demoliton Discourse
Thereby demolition art contributes to a discourse between architecture and art. By artistically occupying the niche between the dying building and the new construction, the respectful gaze is not only directed backwards, but also expectantly forward.
This tie is further strengthened by presenting the future construction project, which is to be realized on the site, as an integral part of the exhibition within the demolition object.
Project 04
The Demolition Art Project 04 took place from Februar 17 to 25, 2018.
Place: The former Westend restaurant and office building at Förrlibuckstrasse 180 in Zürich.
Projekt 03
The Demolition Art Project 03 was realized from April 15 to 19 and April 22 to 26, 2015.
Place: The former workshops of Carrosserie Boffa and the automobile body and paint workspace of Max Zimmermann at Werdstrasse 126 in Zürich’s district 3.
Projekt 02
The Demolition Art Project 02 took place from September 3 to 13, 2024.
Place: A commercial building at Seestrasse 49 in Zollikon.
Projekt 01
The Demolition Art Project 01 took place from June 12 to 15, 2013.
Place: A commercial building including the former restaurant Bierfalken at Löwenstrasse 16 in Zürich.
Ur-Projekt
The „Founding Project“ of Demolition Art by SOLLBRUCHSTELLE took place at the end of September 2011.
Place: A single-family home in Zürich-Schwamendingen.
